Wollensak Escort 7x35Mfr: Unknown, no J- marks. Date: circa 1950's AFOV: ~70 degrees TFOV: ~10 degrees Eye Relief: ~15mm Prisms: low index This wide angle 7x35 was one of the imported Escort brand of binoculars sold by the American firm Wollensak. The right prism cover is marked "Made for Wollensak Optical Co." Although there are no markings to indicate the manufacturer, they appear to be from a quality Japanese firm. The coated optics are of very good quality, except for the low index prisms causing squared off exit pupils. This binocular provides very nice wide angle views, very much like the FPO made Bushnell Rangemaster. The eye relief is much better than average for this type of binocular, although the eye lens is recessed several mm behind the hard plastic eyecup. There is a bit of light leakage visible from the prisms. If the prisms were of higher quality, this binocular would be one of the best wide angle 7x35's. |
